Working towards RSGallery2 for Joomla 3
« on: November 12, 2013, 01:29:33 PM »
While Joomla extensions are kind of supposed to work in Joomla 3 when they work in Joomla 2.5 this is not the case for RSGallery2 (version 3.2.0). I believe (hope?) this is mainly due to the many functions used in RSG2 3.2 that are marked as "deprecated" in Joomla 2.5 (see!_2.5_extensions_work_with_Joomla!_3.x%3F). Therefore I have started to change the code where deprecated functions are called to work towards a version that functions in Joomla 2.5 as well as in Joola 3. With each change it is checked that the modified RSG2 still works in J2.5 and that it works in J3 as well. This modified RSG2 does not install without errors in J3 yet (one table is not created), but I think people who can code a bit can get around this by creating the database table themselves?

I have created a branch in the Joomlacode SVN called "towardsJ3" ( where I have put what I have done so far to get RSG2 working for J3. It has a little DEPRECATED.txt.php file in which there is some info on the deprecated functions that are removed in the admin section already and that still need to be removed. Once the admin section is ready it's time for the site section. This is most definitely not done yet... people who want to and can help out in coding are most welcome!

Please post your patches, with a description of what you did and how you've checked it to work, in this thread. Thank you!

What's new in Joomla 2.5

With a little boy in the house I don't spend as much time on RSG2 anymore.

I still like RSG2, if you do too, please think about how you can invest some of your time in RSG2... the one remaining coding volunteer (Whazzup) can use your help!
