IE 6 problem
« on: December 14, 2007, 08:29:59 AM »
IS there a known problem with IE 6?
My RSGallery2 (SVN 523) is working very well on Firefox but in IE6 I get an error:
"Internet explorer cannot opet Internet site http://www.knezak.si/index.php?option=com_rsgallery2&Itemid=113
Operation aborted!"

What is wrong? Why IE 6 cannot open my gallery?

Joomla 1.0.12

Hello Erik

IE6 is quite sensitive if a document declared as XHTML and contains validation errors. Try to fix them and see if the problem remains.
you can use this website to validate your page:http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.knezak.si%2Findex.php%3Foption%3Dcom_rsgallery2%26Itemid%3D112&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0

OK, I've never done that and I don't know how but I'll try to fix the errors and we'll see.

Thank you for now.

I tried in IE7 and I get tha same error. With that validator that you wrote I get only one error and that is something with UTF-8:
"Sorry, I am unable to validate this document because on line 786 it contained one or more bytes that I cannot interpret as utf-8 (in other words, the bytes found are not valid values in the specified Character Encoding). Please check both the content of the file and the character encoding indication.

The error was: utf8 "\xE8" does not map to Unicode "

What does this mean and where and how do I correct it(which file)?

Hello Erik

sorry .. this is a forum related to RSGallery.

There are many other forums that help you with XHTML issues.

Tip: go to line 768 of your website (in firefox click on "show page source") and figure out what causes the problem.

Hi Erik

I had a quick look at your source. On my local server replacing

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

in line 1 of your index file with

<?php
defined( '_VALID_MOS' ) or die( 'Restricted access' );
$iso = explode( '=', _ISO );
echo '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="'. $iso[1] .'"?' .'>';
?>

immediately got rid of the error and had it loading in IE6.

Good luck
Etienne

Hi Etienne!

I'm trying to find the right index file to replace that lines but I can't find it in the whole place of Joomla directories. I think that the main index file is build with other files and it is just fiction what we see in our source page or it isn't?!?!

Help please!

Hi Erik

It will be the index.php file in your templates/(your_template_here)  directory.

Thanks, but I already changed the code there and nothing happened. I still can't get my gallery working and my source is still the same as before.

Any ideas?

Hi

I looked at you source again. See you are using the Long Orange template. The file you're looking for will be http://www.knezak.si/templates/sample_longorange/index.php. I downloaded the template and index.php actually contains the correct code.

Once you have changed this the site WILL work in IE6.

Next I suggest you run it through the validator mentioned previously as well as through the one at http://www.totalvalidator.com/ as the site contains other errors which might affect the functionality.

Regards

Thank you Etienne.
The page really works in IE6 but it has some problems with IE 7.

Thanks again!

Hi Erik

Making that change allowed me to run the validator from my local machine. There are still a few xml errors which are probably the IE7 problem. I don't have IE7 so can't check. I have placed the validation results at the link below, 288kb document, if you want to download it and work through it.
